Male writers depict women differently. I’m not talking about Bukowski or Hemingay, of course.
But some of them, at times, portray women in such a way that you start questioning the women in your own life.
I decided to list the ones that stuck with me. I’ll update this over time, and it would be even better if examples from female or male authors who write about men are added as well.
In my list, I’m only giving the characters and their authors — I won’t mention the works.
Sibilla – Umberto Eco
Lou Salome – Irvin Yalom (not sure whether the magic lies in the character or the writer)
Rüya – Orhan Pamuk
Zinayida – Turgenev
Dolores – Nabokov (even at the cost of being cursed)
Delgadina – García Márquez
Lily Montgomery – John Fowles
